Launching in 2020, the YMCA Youth Advisory Panel is an initiative that was formed from a need identified by the young people of the YMCA. With the support of the YMCA North Board and CEO Julian Baldey we aim to create a YMCA which continues to strive ahead as a youth-focused organisation. The panel will meet with the YMCA leadership team and the board, working in real-life situations and environments.
The Youth Advisory Panel, made up of up to 12 young people aged between 16 – 24 years old, will meet monthly to brainstorm, plan, discuss and put forward concepts and initiatives for the YMCA to make sure young people are being represented and supported in the future direction of the organisation. The panel will focus on future-centric issues such as sustainability and mental health.
The Youth Advisory Panel will be run by our Youth Empowerment Supervisor, Chelsey Harnell. Pulling from her experience with local youth boards she will be bring together young people from across Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga.
