Space is a programme mainly for first time parents and their babies run by YMCA in locations across Auckland. Space programmes run for 3-4 terms (approximately 30-40 weeks). Groups meet every week during the school term and are run by Space trained facilitators.
The Space Programme has two focus areas, the first being The Heart of Parenting & The Growing Child. The second focus is on Exploring Play and concentrates on providing play experiences for the infants alongside their parents. There is a range of discussion topics covered and may vary according to group interests or needs. Occasionally guest speakers are invited to deliver specialized topics.
Babies joining a new Space session are generally between 3 weeks and 4 months of age and parents stay on session with their babies.
Sessions are tailored to the age group of the babies participating but a typical session will incorporate the following topics or elements:
The Heart of Parenting & The Growing Child
Informal time of welcoming, relaxing & interaction
Thoughts and sharing moments
Songs, music/movement, rhymes and books
Discussion or guest speaker on the topic of the week.
Continuing opportunities for play throughout the session, including Heuristic play, playfulness and tactile experiences
You meet ad socialise with super cool people like 'The Rustinator'
You'll develop your baby with super human powers
