For eight years, Niloufer Sultana has faced a number of health challenges, including being diagnosed as pre-diabetic, and suffering from a stroke and three heart attacks. By 2016 Niloufer knew it was time for a lifestyle change. Upon joining the YMCA, she felt she had finally found a place where she was welcome and comfortable enough to work on her health.

YMCA Auckland has partnered with Plunket Auckland to offer half-price swimming and water safety lessons to Plunket clients with children aged 3 months to 5 years.

Go down to the Lagoon Pool and Leisure Centre, and you’ll probably find Janet Lewis swimming laps. She’s been a regular face in the swimming pools every week since 1974. Not only is that an incredible dedication to her favourite sport, what’s even more remarkable is that Janet didn’t actually know how to swim until she was 28 years old.
