We understand that keeping the kids occupied can be a hard task during the school holidays – so YMCA North Shore Recreation Centre offers the most fun school holiday programmes at various locations on the North Shore. From day trips to sports-based programmes, no two sets of holidays are quite alike. Our holiday programmes operate at North Shore Recreation Centre, Kauri Park School, Greenhithe School and Warkworth School on the North Shore. With a variety of exciting and different programmes, there is something to suit your child's needs.
Programmes generally run from 9am - 3pm, care is available before and after those times at no extra cost - See individual sites below for start and finish times.
During programme operational hours, parents can contact the following phone numbers in case they would like to speak with staff working on the programme. Thank you.
As a child-safe organisation we are committed to looking after the well-being of children. The YMCA has a legal, moral and Mission-driven responsibility to protect children and young people from harm, so we have developed a Child Protection policy. The priority to protect children and young people will apply equally by all who work with or for the YMCA.
Our Holiday Programme is approved by MSD - Ministry of Social Development. This means our programme meets certain standards for approval and is regularly audited for quality assurance purposes.
To minimise risk and to ensure the safety and quality of the programme is at it's best we operate under strict ratios. There are a minimum of 2 staff per programme. Normally for in-house programmes we have 1 staff to 10 kids and depending on the type of excursion activity we have anything between 1 staff to 4 to 8 kids.
Our Holiday Programmes range from in-house sports based activities to out-house trip based days. Every day is different. The in-house sports programme is for kids between 5 - 15 years of age and we split them into age appropriate groups and our excursions are split into 5 - 9 year olds and 9 - 15 year olds.
Holiday programme now operates from 7am - 6pm. 7am - 8:30am is before care and 3pm - 6pm is after care and is available for parents with time constraints due to work commitments. All at no extra cost. These do not need to be booked separately and is part of your kids programme.
One of our strongest assets is our staff. With years of experience, passion and strong YMCA values embedded in them you can be rest assured that your kids will have a great time on our holiday programmes. Additionally as part of our strong recruitment process, all YMCA employees, volunteers and contractors are police vetted prior to employment and then re-vetted every two years.
