Preschool

Preschool classes introduce your child to the water in a fun and happy environment. Classes include water awareness, water safety and swimming skills. These classes are designed to work with your child’s growth, motor and sensory development.

Babies Levels

Our Waterbabies, Aquababies and Superbabies classes are for babies and toddlers who are still too young to venture into the pool without a parent or guardian.

All three levels run for 20 minutes with a maximum of five babies (plus their parent/guardian) to an instructor.

The instructor will use a similar routine each week throughout the term, as young children learn best through routine and get more enjoyment out of familiar songs and activities.

In the Waterbabies we take babies from six months old to 18 months old. The class is made up of repetitive songs, games and activities to help build familiarity and routine.

Once the child is walking with confidence (around 14 months old) it is time to join the Aquababies class.

In our Aquababies class the age group is approximately 14 months to 30 months old, and the activities are similar to the Waterbabies songs and games.

Baby moves out of this class into Superbabies on advice from the instructor.

The Superbabies class is for approximately 24 months through to three year olds and is where increased independence is encouraged. The class is aimed at preparing children to cope with lessons on their own without their parent/guardian.

Once your child is three years and the instructor assesses them to be capable, they move into the Kindy levels where the parent/guardian is no longer required to be in the lesson.

Why Put Your Child Into Baby Lessons?

The earlier your child starts to experience swimming the better. Research shows that babies less than one year old accept the water more readily than older children.

The fear of water is acquired as children grow older especially if they have had little or no experience in the water.

Swimming is also great exercise for your baby, parents find that babies sleep and eat better on swimming days, and it is great for developing motor skills, independence and self confidence.

Preparing For Your First Lesson

Many parents find it beneficial to give their child a light snack an hour before swimming, and making sure they have had a nap before hand makes the classes more enjoyable for everyone.

Try to arrive early so you and your baby are nice and relaxed and ready to begin the lesson on time.

Baby will pick up on your own anxieties so if you are not comfortable in the water ask someone who is to do the baby lessons and/or enrol in some adult lessons first.

Please remember all children are required to wear swimming nappies, these are available at most supermarkets and our reception desks.

Kindy Levels

Our Kindy classes are for children of three years old until they are ready for school. At five they move into our School Age levels.

Kindy levels range from Kindy 1, our beginners level to Kindy 4 for more advanced preschool swimmers.

These levels run for 20 minutes and have a ratio of three children to one instructor. A parent/guardian is not required in the lesson for these levels. Children are assessed by an instructor to see what level they should begin in.
