YMCA Auckland’s Claudia Gallur Wins the AUT University-Gym Instructor of the Year at the 2010 Fitness Industry Awards 

Fitness Awards 1  Staff and members at the Auckland City branch of YMCA Auckland, one of the oldest organisations in the country and leading provider of fitness, recreation, childcare, accommodation and sports, will head into the new year knowing that they have New Zealand’s top gym instructor in their midst.

“I am delighted to announce that Claudia Gallur was presented with Gym Instructor of the year at the recent New Zealand Fitness Awards,” said Jo Clark, YMCA Auckland’s General Manager Fitness & Training.  “Congratulations to Claudia, who does a fantastic job at Auckland City. The testimonials from staff and members at City really showed how much she is valued and respected by everybody. She is never without a smile and a warm welcome, and goes out of her way to help the members on the gym floor.”

 

Gallur, who has been at the YMCA since 2008, started out there as a fitness trainer. In 2009 she was made coordinator of the AUT developed Never Too Old programme for people over 60, where she runs the warm up and cool down in the classes and writes and supervises the participants’ gym programs according to their needs and possibilities. As a YMCA fitness instructor, Gallur does consultations and writes programmes for gym members. Last year, she also became a personal trainer. “I’m kept busy with plenty of roles here,” she laughs.

 

Gallur credits all her supporters at YMCA Auckland City for the win. “The award is a huge honour for me”, she says. “I want to thank all the members and the staff – without them I wouldn’t have been given this award. They have motivated me and been my inspiration, so I think it’s recognition of all of us really.”

 

Prior to joining the YMCA, Gallur worked as a gym instructor at the Laura Fergusson Trust, She immigrated to New Zealand from Argentina in 2003, where she worked as a Physiotherapist for 13 years.

 

The Fitness Awards, which have been running since 2005, recognise individuals and organisations that have made an outstanding contribution to New Zealand’s health and wellness through exercise and fitness. Award winners were announced at a ceremony on the 27th of November.
