YMCA Auckland is gearing up for an action-packed open day on the 27th of November to celebrate the reopening of its North Shore Centre after a two year renovation. “We’re excited to finally see it in action, filled with people,” says YMCA Auckland’s Maintenance Manager Dean Rendle. |
Families from across the North Shore and the super city will be invited to try out YMCA North Shore’s new facilities, including a sound and light system that pulses to the beat of the music, exercise room with a sprung floor, renovated squash courts, and hotel grade changing rooms complete with Italian tiles and granite bench tops.
Visitors will have the chance to try out a plethora of YMCA programmes for free, says Mike Lacey, the Centre’s Manager. “All our top instructors are going to be here throughout the day, doing taster classes in Zumba, cardio kickboxing, spin, and more,” he says. “We’ll also be offering free blood pressure checks and health checks, with Shore Physio and Wayne the chiropractor on board to sort out all your aches and pains.”
The YMCA is also offering special membership deals and draws to everyone who comes on the day. All visitors go into the draw to win a three month membership, and those who join can save up to 250 dollars. Those who sign up go into a draw to win a Navman, Breakers tickets, meal vouchers at The Goode Brothers (Takapuna) and massage vouchers at the end of the day.
“The day is going to be all about family,” Lacey says. “We’ve got great kids activities on offer, like face painting, pavement art, a bouncy castle and kids’ basket ball. We’re looking after the parents too, with a DJ, and lots of spot prizes throughout the day. There will also have free childcare from 8:30 am to midday, so you can drop the littlies off and have a chance to enjoy the new facilities.”
The North Shore Centre is looking forward to expanding its already wide reach from the open day and onwards. Over 4,500 users use YMCA North Shore’s facilities every week. The Centre’s wide range of community recreation activities includes preschool and school gymnastics, youth programmes, a large fitness centre, and extensive after hours soccer and basketball league, and the largest miniball programme in the country, with over 90 teams.
“We are very excited about the future of YMCA North Shore,” says John Fairhurst, YMCA Auckland’s CEO. “The refurbishment will help YMCA Auckland continue its role as the city’s leading provider of fitness, recreation, childcare, accommodation and sports. We’re looking forward to showing the community their sparkling new facility on the open day.”
