On Tuesday the 15th June the YMCA Massey celebrated its second birthday for the never2old programme run at the Massey Leisure Centre. Never2old is a gym based programme for over 60’s which was developed by AUT in 2002 and focuses on getting mature adults more physically active and fit in a safe and professional environment.
This seniors fitness programme has gone from strength to strength here at Massey averaging 29 participants a class and reaching an all time high of 46 in one class last month. We have also diversified the programme by adding in activities to keep the loyal participants entertained and finding that exercise can be fun. Some of our more popular activities are:
Modified Spinning classes (exercise class on stationary bikes)
A range of different group exercise classes
Nordic Walking
Drums Alive (group exercise class drumming to the beat on exercise balls)
African hand drumming (shown by Majuba Beats on their awesome African Drums)
Line dancing (taught by n2o member Carol Davis who is also a Sport Waitakere Community Leader)
The success of the class has been as a result of the hard work of our staff Elin Noyer and Mani Toailoa that run the programme. If you would to know more or give it a try please call the YMCA at Massey on 833 8100.
